ALL ABOUT LIGHTING
How does Light affect us?
We all know and feel the effect
lighting has on us.
You feel happier on a sunny day,
and it can be a bit of a struggle to
get out of bed on the gloomy days.
Similarly, artificial light also plays a
big role in inducing feelings of
dynamism, relaxation, privacy,
visual clarity, excitation,
productivity and efficiency.
However, a lesser known fact
is that the wrong kind of lighting
(very low/excessively high colour
temperature*, lumens and fewer
lights resulting in a badly lit space)
can trigger stress, agitation,
restlessness, anxiety, sadness
and sleepiness.
LIGHTING UP A SPACE
How to choose the right Light?
Getting this formula right isnโt that hard however. We have some simple tips for you to do a quick checklist at home and make those little changes that could make a world of difference to how you perceive the world ( and yourself ) while you slide effortlessly from busy workday to relaxed, luxurious family/ personal time at home.
1. Bulb brightness
Look around you, notice the key areas in your space that you would like to be well lit.
Decide if it requires task lighting or just a brighter mood light. For example : kitchen areas, dining table, near the couch/library, stairways.
For these spaces, ensure you have at least a 1000 lumen Led bulb(s) in place with the right pendant/ wall /floor light fixtures to highlight these areas efficiently and sufficiently.
LUMENS are a measure of light output/ brightness and is the right way to tell how bright your LED fixture is. WATTAGE measures how much
energy the bulb consumes.
So perhaps all you may need is a simple bulb change
600 - 1000 lumens = great for home
1000 - 2500 lumens = good for high energy work space

2. Colour Temperature

Color temperature is a way to describe the light appearance provided by a light bulb. It is measured in degrees of Kelvin (K) on a scale from 1,000 to 10,000. The lower the value the more yellowish
2700k- 3000k = Warm white - Great for residential spaces - Living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms,
3500k - 4000k = Natural white - Good for task lighting in kitchens and bathrooms. Also used in office spaces and retail showrooms
6500k = Crystal white - Only for warehouses, industrials spaces and hospitals
3. Types of bulbs and holders
If you donโt know about the base type of your bulb, go for B22 LED bulb as it is the most commonly used bulb base type in India.
This type is also called a pin type bulb holder base or bayonet pin base type. The bulb for this type of a holder has a diameter of 22mm
The most commonly used bulb holder across our light fixtures is the E27 screw type bulb holder.
