That Celebration of Lights !

It's here ! The Indian festival that I love ! Happy Diwali my loves !

Since our last post here, we have been newly rejuvenated and been really feeling the love. I don't think you know how much it helps our little business to hear you say all these lovely things to us and to see the pictures of your beautiful homes full of what we craft !

We have also had a fantastic response from the lovely press folk to our new collections. Here's what has us SO excited this season and this new collection !

This year in Bangalore, its cold, raining and it couldn't be better. The rain puts out the inevitable and much disliked (by a few) crackers that are horribly polluting and incredibly insensitive to the ears of our furry friends, so its an added reason to celebrate. Instead, out come the gifts, the lovely new sarees and little diyas and fairylights everywhere.

Anusha sent us this gorgeous picture of her bedroom with our Koi Cloud 24x24 cushions and a Windsong table lamp. And this is what she says in a sweetly worded letter "Love the play of colors in my bedroom, courtesy the beautiful cushions and the lovely bedside lamp.
Had some friend visiting me yesterday and all the Olie stuff at home was s big hit so thought of letting you know !
Keep up the awesome work! " Anusha.

See what I mean ? Big hugs all around ! How is your home looking this Diwali? Send us pictures :)

Luxury of the Local

Hello there, my world !

Since I've got this great new way to talk to you, I've decided that today - I would like to touch upon a topic that's been on my mind for months.

How to turn our constant need for beautiful things, our love for shopping into something that benefits our community, keeps our carbon footprint within that delicate line, and at the same time - remains an experience that one can only associate with true luxury. Shop Local.

With the words 'hand-made' and 'hand-crafted' being tossed around everywhere these days. I fear that in one of the few countries where the 'hand-made'  still exists, and the tradition is somehow being kept alive .. we are forgetting what it truly means.

When we craft a cushion or a lamp or even a little box at Olie, the process is what heartens us. The exchange of smiles, and happy banter as the fabrics come into our studio. Sitting with our talented artisans as we share our ideas and plans with them. They almost always contribute directly to the design of the product, with details that are added by hand, painstakingly and with love.

Every time an order comes in, everyone is excited. The pride with which the whole family sits down to craft the most beautiful accessories they have ever crafted before is one that always moves me deeply. To have our dream shared by these incredible people who then turn it into a reality.

And then of course, comes each tag that has been designed individually for each printed collection, the little hand-written notes that go into each package that is packed for an order. And finally the joy of having a customer come back to us with a sweetly worded letter that completes the cycle of the carecrafted.

With the product being made entirely by hand, we use less electricity, and therefore makes our impact on the environment that much smaller. The luxury of having so many hands from our little towns and villages breathing life and adding soul to every lamp or cushion cover that sits proudly in your home is one that cannot be added up. It is a sense of history that is attached, a labour of love and luxury in it's purest form.

It's a lovely way to do your bit. Shop Local. You will leave richer for the experience.
much love x

Throwback to Raintree

I believe the most fun I have ever had, was after I booked the beautiful Raintree for Olie's first day out. I have always dreamed of making it my own, for even a day - and it all came alive, with the help of my sweet family and friends who worked tirelessly and kept our spirits high !

It was a wonderful way to take the plunge, and one I could never forget ! Here are some pictures from the two days when Olie was unveiled for the very first time to a response that I could never have imagined possible.

We created little worlds, one for each collection and ended up doing a little 'tour' of sorts to tell all our tales to the walkers-in .

So many of our products evolved and grew from the feedback that our first customers gave us. We put Olie into it's first stores 6 months later, bigger and better than ever before and we still value every email, or comment that comes our way. Feel free to engage, review and join us in this journey, we will love having you with us.

Have a great weekend, and much love x

The Sea and I

Pondicherry is a little town in the south of india with cobbled streets and yellow french buildings, where time stands still and inspiration glows quietly in every corner.

Olie was a thought that was born whilst sitting by the sea with a pencil in my hand, in love with the beauty of the world. The simple lifestyle, the magic in the little things in the world around us, the art of dreaming - everything that you had time for in Pondicherry and that so many people living life in cities were too pre-occupied to notice, I wanted to bring that magic back into their everyday lives. Remind them of the whimsy that is all around them in every bug, tree, falling leaf , and the power of dreaming.
